The Melt

"Let yourself recall again and again what for you is the most important thing. Perhaps you long to realize the truth of who you are, to love well, to touch peace, or live more from presence." - Tara Brach True Refuge

My new friend, Eloise

"The words were still clear on the thick yellow page but the paper crumbled like bread and a bakery smell rose in her nostrils. Words surely have meanings, she thought, and there is my trouble. Something happens to words coming to me from other people. Something happens to my words. They do not seem worth uttering.
"People don't mean what they say. Words often mean their opposites.
"If a person says to you: I hate to tell you this, but...she doesn't hate to tell you. She likes to tell you. This is a good place to make a new start with words."  Walker Percy, The Second Coming

The Green Line

"I wish I had the voice of everything.
To scream the animals,
To scream the earth,
To scream the stars out of our universe.
To scream at all back into nothingness:
To scream the feeling till there's nothing left"
-Angel Olsen "Stars"

Veering off the road for an impromtu hike at Lake Rebecca

"...When you travel a path and note that another path breaks away to one side at say a 30-degree angle, and then later another path branches away to the same side at a broader angle, say 45-degrees, and another path later at 90 degrees, you begin to understand that there's some point over there that all the paths lead to and that a lot people have found it worthwhile to go that way,...

"...and you begin to wonder if perhaps this isn't the way you should go too." --Robert Pirsig

Weeds and New Growth

I notice weeds. I like them sometimes. Oftentimes. I think they're pretty. I think they're tough. I love fields of dandelions. What does this say about me?

I like lifeforms often construed as ugly. No big deal. I enjoy things that others want to get rid of. Bigger deal. I wish I liked and enjoyed all the normal things; life would be easier. Big deal. But I have to be true to myself, or else I feel worse. Big deal.

"Quality...you know what it is, yet you don't know what it is. But that's self-contradictory. But some things are better than others, that is, they have more quality. But when you try to say what the quality is, apart from the things that have it, it all goes poof! There's nothing to talk about. But if you can't say what Quality is, how do you know what it is, or how do you know that it even exists? If no one knows what it is, then for all practical purposes it doesn't exist at all. But for all practical purposes it really does exist. What else are the grades based on? Why else would people pay fortunes for something and throw others in the trash pile? Obviously some things are better than others...but what's the "betterness"?...So round and round you go, spinning mental wheels and nowhere finding anyplace to get traction. What the hell is Quality? What is it?" - Robert Pirsig
